Kobus van der Wath
Kobus is the Founder and CEO of Axis Group International.
Based in Beijing, he has been working in Asia for 25 years. Before founding Axis Group and The Beijing Axis, he was Head of Investment Strategy and Global Market Research for Asia Pacific for Standard Chartered Bank Plc. Prior to that, he was a Senior Strategy Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in Asia. In his early career, he was an Emerging Market Investment Strategist in London; a Treasury Economist with Standard Merchant Bank in  Johannesburg; and an Economist with the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria.
He holds an MBA from INSEAD in France, a Master of Business (I.T.) from Curtin in Australia and BCom Honours degrees in  Finance/Investments and Economics, respectively from UJ and Unisa in South Africa.
He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business’ International Strategy Department,  teaching ‘Doing Business in China and Asia’. He is also a Fellow at the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute for Business  Science, in their Centre for Dynamic Markets.
Rachel Wu
Rachel is the MD, China and Asia of Axis Group. She is responsible for global business development, all client solutions and overall P&L. She has an international team across Asia and Africa that supports her in driving the business forward. Her expertise is in global procurement/supply chain, transaction management, international business, complex negotiations, and strategic development. She has advised numerous Chinese and international clients with their cross-border activities over the past 15 years.
Rachel is from Beijing and has lived and worked in Australia, Singapore, the rest of Asia and Africa. She has traveled extensively over the past years and is currently based in Beijing and Shanghai. Before joining The Beijing Axis, she worked in senior roles in management consulting, supply chain and logistics. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business on international strategy – and has done public speaking in several countries.
Rachel holds an MBA from the University of Western Australia in Perth, Australia and a BA degree in International Business and Trade from the Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing. She is fluent in Mandarin and English.
Bruce is the Financial Director of Axis Group. He has a wealth of knowledge, having overseen finance departments for several years. Bruce has worked in the services industry for several companies whose customers expect significant value-for-money products and services. His previous experience includes holding the position of General Manager of Finance for Imperial Health Sciences International; Financial Director of ProCard; Financial Director of Coin Security; and the Financial Director of BBR Security. Bruce, a Chartered Accountant, holds a BCompt Honours from the University of South Africa and a BCom Degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Haiwei Huang
Haiwei is a Director of Axis Group. He leads all cross-border origination & transaction advisory. Haiwei has been with the company for 13 years and advises blue-chip South African, Chinese and international clients across various industry sectors.
Prior to joining Axis Group, he worked for CHINT, a Shanghai Stock Exchange-listed low voltage product manufacturer, as an International Business Development Manager cultivating clients in Europe and the US. Prior to CHINT, he worked as a Sales Representative at Shanghai Huaqi Telecommunication Company.
Haiwei holds a BA Hons degree in Business Administration from the London South Bank University in the UK. He is fluent in Mandarin, English, as well as Shanghainese.
Barbie H Co
Barbie is a Director of Axis Group. She is the Divisional Head for International Market Expansion and Route-to-Market, responsible for global business development, client solutions, and managing an international team. With 15 years of China/Asia experience, she has managed and executed several strategy and international market expansion projects for both Chinese and multinational clients in various sectors. Her expertise are in international business, project management, research and analysis, marketing and communications, and client engagement.
Prior to joining the Axis Group, Barbie was an International Liaison Officer with ET Group, a multinational management consulting corporation specializing in finance and investment, science and technology, and capacity building. She was also a Project Assistant with TravelPeople, a member of the Magsaysay Group of Companies, a leading human resource company in the Asia Pacific region. She was also a Lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila University on research methods for international relations, and an independent events and marketing consultant.
Barbie holds a BA degree (magna cum laude) in European Studies, International Relations, from the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), and has attended programmes at Beijing Normal University (China) for Chinese Language and Culture, and at L’École Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d’Angers (France) for International Business. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Filipino, and speaks basic French and Minnan.
