Event description:
Referring to a group of five major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the BRICS countries are characterized by their rapidly growing economies, significant populations, and increasing global influence. The group holds annual summits where leaders discuss issues related to trade, investment, finance, and global governance.
This year sees South Africa taking over the rotating BRICS presidency and chairmanship roles from China, with South Africa hosting the BRICS Summit in August 2023.
In view of this, Professor Anil Sooklal, BRICS Sherpa and ministerial advisor, will be visiting Beijing. A workshop will be held to brief the diplomatic community on the preparations for the upcoming summit.
