Position Summary

The ideal candidate for this position is a senior manager, with deep quality experience across mining and industrial projects with demonstrated ability to manage teams, workstreams and outcomes; and an ability to do planning, coordination, execution and delivery and stakeholder management internally and externally.  The Senior Quality Manager will lead and mentor quality team members and plan, monitor and drive the project quality activities to ensure compliance with the approved standards, specifications, procedures, and schedules. The ideal candidate would be very familiar with quality management and related disciplines, i.e. quality assurance, quality control, standards management, rectification management, supplier performance management, expediting, scheduling, and document management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
  • Leads development, coordination, communication and rollout of quality policies, standards, core programs and procedures for use across projects
  • Aligns quality management system, culture, and programs with business strategy to improve project performance
  • Develops and guides competency/training programs to drive the quality culture and processes across the project portfolio
  • Manages – across multiple projects – the project level Quality Management System and represents the company during reviews by client, management, or regulatory agencies
  • Provides oversight/review/evaluation of projects’ quality standards and practices and manages the resources, schedule and workplans for quality oversight reviews
  • Provides oversight and input to the quality elements of project execution plans, procedures, and project quality plans
  • Participates in client, designer, engineer, supplier, and various other stakeholder engagements to coordinate and align
  • Develops schedules, budgets, and staffing planning for quality activities across individual projects and across portfolios
  • Ensures KPIs are met by working with the overall plan, including management of and all reporting
  • Reports on achievement of targets and identifies any actions required
  • Manages and coordinates talent acquisition/strategic hires with the People & Culture team
  • Presents quality strategy and program elements to senior management and clients
  • Ensures that projects operate in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all staff and visitors
  • Conducts risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department

Requirements:

Minimum

  • Minimum of 18+ years of experience in quality management and inspection
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, quality assurance or business administration from an accredited university; or in lieu of formal degree, specialized courses, or certifications (ASME/ANSI, ASQ) in engineering, quality or a specialized discipline and a minimum of 25+ years of experience in quality management and inspection.
  • Prior experience as a project Quality Manager in Mining projects; with a focus in mining equipment (not just MRO or components), experience in electricals is a bonus
  • International mining company experience (a non-Chinese mining company); Mining EPC/M, mining companies preferred (not manufacturing)
  • Recent experience in performing work under a quality assurance program and its application to engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, training, or operations
  • In depth knowledge in performance improvement activities specific to People Based Quality, Lessons Learned, Lean Six Sigma, and Self Assessments to include application on Mega Projects
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
  • Team management experience (allocate tasks, coordinate, manage timelines, can work with any type of people etc.)
  • Ability to handle pressure, work with tight deadlines and effectively multitask
  • English proficiency
  • Prepared for frequent travel
  • High EQ

Preferred

  • Chinese nationality
  • Proficiency in Chinese and other Asian languages is a strong advantage
  • Membership of an industry related professional body would be advantageous
  • Less linear thinking (commercial mindset will be a bonus)
