  1. July – Liberia: China donated USD 3mn worth of medicine and related equipment to Liberia’s Ministry of National defense in July. The donation was handed to country’s 14th Military Hospital in the Margibi district. Liberia’s Minister of Defense, Daniel Ziankahn, recveived the donation from Han Xiao, a representative from the Chinese Embassy in Liberia.
  2. June – Benin: 10 Chinese firms donated materials and funds to Benin’s government in their efforts to support the fight against COVID-19. Chinese Ambassador to Benin, Peng Jingtao, handed the donation over to the Benin’s Minister of Health, Benjamin Hounkpatin. The donation, valued at roughly USD 123mn, included sanitary equipment as well as other medical resources.
  3. July – Namibia: Yang Jun, Political Counselor at the Chinese embassy to Namibia announced that to date, China has donated USD 2.35mn in COVID-19 related supplies to the Southern African country. Mr. Jun was speaking at a handover event where Huawei had donated two thermal imaging systems to Namibia’s Ministry of Health and Social Services.
  4. June – South Africa: The New Development Bank, established by the BRICS countries in 2014, approved USD 1bn in the form of an Emergency Assistance Program Loan to South Africa. The loan is to support South Africa’s government with its efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 by providing funds for healthcare resources.
