Axis Group hosts the South Africa Inc Luncheon at the Kempinski Hotel January 2020
BEIJING – 13 January 2020 – Axis Group hosted the South Africa Inc Luncheon on Monday, January 13, at the Signatures Restaurant of the Kempinski Hotel. Minister Counsellor Yusuf Timol of the South African Embassy in China attended as the Guest of Honour.
Kobus van der Wath, Founder and Group Managing Director of Axis Group International / The Beijing Axis, warmly welcomed the South African business community and gave a brief introduction as to the purpose of the gathering, especially for those who were visiting and attending for the first time.
Mr van der Wath spoke about 2020 being a new year with positive expectations and the notion of South African businesses in China coming together to build on the momentum of the past and pave a new way forward. He also initiated a discussion around challenges and opportunities that South African businesses are currently facing in China, and how might the members of the community join forces in order to address these concerns and emerge stronger as a group.
Newly appointed Minister Counsellor Timol talked about the importance of the South African business community in China and the potential for fostering stronger relationships between China and South Africa. He went on to emphasise that working together with the Department for Trade and Industry will develop bigger opportunities in China and South Africa.
This luncheon welcomed representatives from South African Department of Trade and Industry, Old Mutual, Dentons, Hollard Insurance, Landpac, South African Tourism, Standard Bank, and CED Prometheus. Participants are largely from South African companies or with some kind of South Africa link.
The SA Inc Luncheon is an informal forum, which serves to gather the South African business community together to discuss the current condition of South Africa-China relations, to examine the state of the Chinese economy, and to exchange ideas and initiatives related to the South Africa – China agenda.
